Kubernetes and its ecosystem
This is what we think about Kubernetes. Read and watch for some opinionated insights from certified Kubernetes administrators. Also some tips on how and when you should use Kubernetes are shared.
We organised an online event "Kubernetes, its ecosystem and Rancher – ask us anything!" for anyone interested in Kubernetes and Rancher. (Pst! To be the first one to hear about such events join our Kubernetes Helsinki Meetup group and Rancher Finland Meetup group.)
In the event, we had a Q&A session with short presentations and discussions by Kubernetes and Rancher experts: Jukka Välimaa and me (Toni Röyhy) from Montel Intergalactic, as well as our visiting experts Annie Talvasto and Anoop Vijayan. The event was hosted by Montel Intergalactic together with the Cloud Native Nordics.
Here in this blog I wanted to present to you a few video clips from the event where we discuss Kubernetes. The whole Q&A session of the event as well as Annie’s keynote talk "Top new CNCF projects to look out for" can be found in our YouTube channel.
Kubernetes architecture and components
This first video includes a short introduction to Kubernetes architecture and components and their functioning. Also, k3s and k0s are shortly described and discussed. Jukka Välimaa is leading the show in this video.
How to access applications in Kubernetes cluster?
In the second video, we discuss different ways to provide access to the apps inside a Kubernetes cluster. In this recording, all of us four Kubernetes experts share our thoughts and tips about the topic.
Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot
Autopilot is a new mode of operation in Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). It is designed to reduce the operational cost of managing clusters, optimize clusters for production, and yield higher workload availability.
The third video I share is a short introduction to GKE Autopilot. A DevOps expert Anopp Vijayan shares his thoughts about the newly published GKE Autopilot and also touches on the matter of nodeless approach to Kubernetes.
When should you use Kubernetes?
But when should you actually use Kubernetes? This interesting question will be answered in this last video clip that I’ll share from the event. In the video, Jukka Välimaa explains why he doesn't want to have pets, but rather have cattle. Or in other words, why he likes to use Kubernetes in certain cases. Also, I and Anoop share our opinion on the topic.
Thanks for reading and watching! If you are interested in how our Kubernetes experts could help your business scale, please don’t hesitate to book a free consultation meeting with us. For free with no strings attached.
*The workshop happened in 3/2021 but the text was revisited in 2024 and the topics are still very current.
